The southern tip of Miami Beach Island is home to the Art Deco National Historic District. Ocean Drive is a strip of hotels with characteristic rounded corners, vivid colors ( mainly blue and yellow ) and geometric ornamentation.
The hotels were completed in the 1920's but Ocean Drive soon became associated with liquor and gambling ( Al Capone was a frequent guest here ). Then much of the Art Deco district had become a slum but it experienced an unprecedented revival in the late 80's which some partially attribute to the success of the TV show "Miami Vice."
